backstreets back. alright
background: this was, mostly, unintentional. i barely had any idea what i was doing. it was near midnight and one thing just led to another. shoutout to naytone on the cheater's bibleman discord for helping me out on some things.
tools: firefox- not required but the inspection tool can see network traffic, which is what you really need here. vlc is needed for my method due to its ability to stream web media and then convert it to a local file.
step one: bust out a rightnow media account. it looks really expensive, but don't worry- the target audience is churches. a quick search will yield several institutions giving out links to join rightnow under their account. i personally used xclaimed ministries' link, but you can use whatever works, it doesn't matter whatsoever.
step two: find your media. i centered my search around bibleman, but if my guesses are correct, you can do this with literally anything if rightnow doesn't change their encryption practices. you have to actually start watching the video, though, because you need to get the request.
step three: open inspection tool. on firefox, the tabs are at the top- click network, and then scroll through until you find your link. it should be a media getrequest link, something like this: [singe letter][3 numbers][letterstring].cloudfront.net/[2 numbers]/[6 numbers]/hls/[previous 6 letter string]_[quality- 144p up to 1080p].m3u8.
here's an actual example: https://d234cmqaoxyea1.cloudfront.net/81/414581/hls/414581_270p.m3u8
note that in firefox, the host name and filename are separated, you'll need to connect the two in text.
step four: get the highest quality possible. this is done rather simply by changing the resolution to 1080p.
step five: open vlc, go to media, click on open network stream, and input your finished link. it should play in vlc just fine.
step six: go to that same page again, but hit the dropdown next to play. click on convert. don't let it boot you back to the menu, you have to make sure there's a progress bar on the bottom.
boom. you're done. a few notes:
you can't just go to codex- it just gives the link you already used, which downloads a m3u8 file that can't really be used. m3u files just call videos from the web, so you're getting something basically useless. worse, the specific files i've looked at call the video in 7 second chunks. just convert using vlc and you're all good.
here's an example using my method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwS8KhV52Vs
feel free to request anything on rightnow, i'm pretty sure i'll be able to do it.
